Malaysia Broadband Penetration Jumps To 81.5 Percent

Latest report from Malaysia Communication Multimedia Commission on broadband penetration in the country is almost reaching the aspiration of the government of every single person in the country to have access to broadband.

The agency published the full year 2016 statistics recently and showed the broadband penetration had already at 81.5% up 6% in just one quarter, with Sarawak witnessing the biggest jump in term of percentage. Kuala Lumpur on the other hand has 191.5% penetration which is close to 2 lines for every inhabitant an astounding fact. Selangor holds the position with the most number of both fixed and mobile broadband lines at 910, 000 and 6.1 million respectively.

As for mobile plan choice there are 9.6 million postpaid users overall as of year end against 34.3 million prepaid users, a 3:1 ratio incidentally there has also been a slight drop in prepaid customers compared to previous year.
