Any association to Comic Con is a big deal and it’s no different for the upcoming Asia Comic Con 2018. This is even if there is no direct relation to the original US-based pop culture events brand. After pulling off a successful Thailand leg, organisers are quick to make a bee-line for Malaysia. Indeed, the doors have flung open to fans of the anime, comics, and games scenes and the generally curious.

That’s right, today is Day One for Malaysia’s first ever Asia Comic Con. Thanks to the revelations during the quick press tour earlier in the day, there are a couple of plus-points. How so? Aside from the Japanese Anisong VIPs and Cosplay Idols, there are a couple of highlights to look forward too. This includes Anisong singers – mao and NoB – big names for the Anisong scene in Japan.

Now, what are the big deals for this inaugural event? For starters, there is a massive figure/figurine display that puts all predecessors to shame. Check them out:

The bigger surprise are the presence of a 1/1 scale Sentinel hand that event-goers can sit on and take photos with. They can also pose with a 1/1 scale Tumbler and Bat Bike from the Christopher Nolan trilogy. Better still – meet Batman Ninja, the 1/1 statue, in person.

The opening ceremony is little spiced up but not too far out from the usual affairs. More amazing are the presence of original anime and gaming goods available for purchase. Kudos to Asia Comic Con 2018 for trying to stifle the usual flood of pirated or unlicensed goods; specifically, the ones that flood major Malaysia anime and games conventions. No guesses necessary as almost all are culprits and have no qualms about it since these are necessary sponsorship funds.

Next is the surprising presence of the Dragon Quest Museum, featuring over-sized prints of original and concept artworks, official dioramas, and a scale model of the main palace.

There will be all sorts of meet-and-greet sessions with VIPs along with a proper concert for event-goers. Those keen to check out either should refer to walls that list the schedule in an easy-to-spot manner.
