You Can Now Make Mobile Payments on WeChat in Malaysia

Tencent, developer of WeChat, announces the launch of its payment features in Malaysia. The WeChat Pay MY mobile payment solution aims to deliver a simple, secure and convenient mobile payment experience.

The latest integration into WeChat’s ecosystem will enable local businesses to engage with customers throughout their shopping journey. WeChat Pay MY enables users to make payment and transfer money within the WeChat app itself. From transferring money to individuals to paying merchants such as telecom carriers, restaurants, supermarkets and chain stores, the app will allow payment across a variety of daily online and offline payment needs.

Among the key features of WeChat Pay MY include Quick Pay; Debit Card Binding; Money Packet; Prepaid Top-Up; Bus and Airline Ticket Purchase; and Wallet Balance Withdrawal.

“As Malaysia embraces the digital economy, we are excited to launch WeChat Pay MY, which aims at facilitating the development of the Malaysian market by introducing local users and businesses with a simple, secure and convenient mobile payment experience,” says Poshu Yeung, Vice President of Tencent International Business Group.

Adding to this, Yeung shares that KK Super Mart is the first chain store in Malaysia to accept WeChat Pay MY. He also shares that Money Packets of up to RM88.88 in value, from 21 to 28 August 2018, will be given away to users in celebration of the launch.

“Moving forward, we will continue to work closely with local regulators and merchants to introduce different payment features and scenarios for both online and offline transactions in Malaysia, which is also aligned with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)’s move towards a cashless society,” he adds.
