A man in his 20’s was sentenced up to 4 months jail and fined RM1000 by the magistrate court for when he was found guilty of stealing a mobile phone in Low Yat Plaza last July.

Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, was charged with shoplifting a Lenovo smartphones worth RM800 from one of the retailer boutique from the mall. The student from an academy was studying to become a backhoe operator and was said to be on drugs when committing the crime.

Back in July, a massive fracas took place due to this incident. Police force was brought in to blockade the mall when throngs of crowd marched to the mall demanding the shopkeeper apologise to the person who alleged to have stolen the phone. A nationwide call to boycott Low Yat Plaza ensued resulting in setting up Low Yat 2 at the Mara building in Jalan Raja Laut. Business has yet to pick for retailers at the old tech mall till today.
