LINE, a messaging app, takes a step forward in protecting users’ privacy by introducing a new security feature called Letter Sealing. It protects chat content even on desktop with End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) and prevents any unauthorised access during message delivery.

It will apply on all platformson mobile devices and desktops, be it Windows or Mac OS X. You need to install LINE 5.3.0 or later to get the feature.

The E2EE facilitates uncrackable encryption by scrambling the chat content with a key and the key is stored only in user device, instead of a centralized server. This makes it practically impossible to disclose any chat content to the server or a third party. However, both users need to have the feature to enable full encryption.

For now, it will be available only to one-to-one individual chats and Location Sharing, butLINE will extend the feature to other areas soon. Plus, if you have more than one Android devices, you’ll have to turn on the feature manually in the Setting. Otherwise, it will be turned on by default if you have the compatible version of the LINE app.
