At its annual global innovation event, Tech World 2024, Lenovo has launched the ThinkSystem N1380 Neptune, a groundbreaking 6th generation vertical liquid cooling solution designed to enhance generative AI capabilities. This innovation promises to reduce data centre power consumption by up to 40%, allowing organisations to optimise their computing power for accelerated AI tasks.
Lenovo also announced an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA, introducing the Lenovo Hybrid AI Advantage with NVIDIA and the ThinkSystem SC777 V4 Neptune. These advancements integrate with NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform, enabling organisations to deploy trillion-parameter AI models within a compact design.
“As AI adoption accelerates, data centres must adapt to higher thermal densities. The ThinkSystem N1380 Neptune, alongside the SC777 V4, supports server racks exceeding 100KW without needing specialised air conditioning,” said Yuanqing Yang, Lenovo Chairman and CEO. This new approach allows data centres to operate efficiently, repurposing power for cooling instead of traditional methods.
The innovative ThinkSystem N1380 Neptune features a fully liquid-cooled chassis, eliminating the reliance on energy-consuming fans. This design enables organisations to leverage accelerated computing while maintaining energy efficiency. The ThinkSystem SC777 V4 Neptune further enhances networking performance by supporting next-generation NVIDIA Quantum-X800 InfiniBand and Spectrum-X800 Ethernet platforms, which are crucial for high-performance accelerated networking.
The partnership with NVIDIA promises to redefine enterprise computing by allowing companies to run extensive AI models more cost-effectively while significantly reducing energy consumption. The ThinkSystem N1380 Neptune’s direct warm-water cooling system enables efficient heat removal from critical components, facilitating real-time large language model (LLM) inference and improving reliability in a compact, ultra-quiet setup.
