Lenovo’s Ambitious Move To Smart Home Products

Lenovo light bulb anyone or how about a three pin socket? A first for any PC manufacturer, Lenovo will be the first company to include home solution like light bulbs, security camera and other items into their portfolio.

The Smart Home Essentials is the latest product series from the company that does not have a processor and brings the brand into a new ecosystem of home use products. The ambition is commendable seeing smart home is an untapped segment waiting to explode with the advent of AI home assistants from Google and Amazon. It’s no surprise Lenovo is seeking to capture a piece of the multi-billion dollar market with the staple business the company is currently involved in looking bleak.

Not new for Asian technology company’s to foray into home goods, the likes of Xiaomi have rolled out everything from shoes to microwave oven after starting their business selling smartphones. The move resulted in higher revenue for the company and is now considered as a billion dollar global tech player.

But with Lenovo the application is centered around the control hub using Google Assistant or Alexa with this users can control specific groups of devices at once or automate them to make certain actions at specific times during the day with a link app. At the moment there’s a Smart Plug, Smart Camera and Smart bulb which can be operated over the mobile phone or using the hub with voice activated control.

This will require consumers some adjusting having a PC maker produce bulbs and security camera but these are different times where convergence has no restriction nor rules. After all if Apple can build cars why not a Lenovo light bulb.
