Microsoft is set to have an education-centric press event tonight (2 May 2017), and the focus of the event will be around education, with the related software and hardware. One of the hardware that is set to be announced tonight is a new Surface product – and thanks to h0x0d, a prominent Microsoft product leaker, we may have the first glimpse of the new product, set to be called Microsoft Surface Laptop.

This is said to be Microsoft’s answer to the Pixel C, as it is set to be a bit more premium than the currently available Google Chromebook devices. No specifications were shared with the leak of photos, but the report says that the Surface Laptop will be running Windows 10 S/Windows 10 Cloud, a light version of Windows 10 designed to be run on simpler devices, but can run Universal Windows application, downloaded from the Windows Store.

One notable feature of the Surface Laptop is the use of Alcantara material for the keyboard. It is the same material Microsoft is using on their Surface detachable keyboards available for sale today. On the same note the Surface Laptop is set to have a thickness of between 9.9 to 14.47 mm while it weighs at around 1.25 kg all in. It will have a SD slot, and a USB slot – which we expect to be a USB Type-C that will be both for data and power. There will also be a mini DisplayPort and a 3.5-mm audio jack, similar to what comes with the Surface tablet.

For the price, we will need to wait and see for the event tonight, and see what else is in store for the Surface Laptop.
