Bike sharing provider based out of Singapore, OBike has suffered a massive data breach of its users information leaving the big question how much of personal details has been exposed.

Operating in various cities including Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Taiwan, the yellow bikes been a hit working with city councils on offering either the last mile ride from public transports or as a casual bike ride for tourist, preferring bicycles for sight seeing.

The extent of the breach is still uncertain but security experts noted the leaks were first discovered in June, however OBike did not reported of the incident. The latest case strikes close to Malaysia, as the country is still investigating the massive data dump of over 46 million users personal information on the internet. OBike is not stranger to these parts with the bikes being used extensively in KL, PJ and Subang with many young school going kids using the service and have their profile listed in the apps servers.

It was also reported that details like user name, profile picture, contacts and location is available online, it is become increasingly prevalent how new start-ups and service providers are careless in protecting their user data. In a rush to deploy their products, they fail to ensure a fool proof security back-end is in place or hold back in investing in this area instead probably due to lack of funding’s.
