Google has sort of made a thing for their Pixel smartphones to be released in October, if the past three years is anything to go by, at least. So it’s safe to assume that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will come out this October as well. In what is the first of probably a wave of rumours and leaks that have yet to come, Pricebaba has got it’s hands on supposed cases and renders of the device.
A tweet posted to Pricebaba’s twitter shows an all black slab that doesn’t exactly scream Google Pixel. Google’s design language has been pretty consistent in their Pixel series of smartphones and the latest renders show that the company have done away with a fingerprint scanner on the back. To add to that, while there’s a speaker on the top, there doesn’t seem to be one on the bottom of the device. The cherry on the cake? The camera setup on the device, which is rumoured to consist of two camera’s (another first for Google), is square, which is very similar to the supposed leaks of the iPhone 11.

While it’s worth noting that we’ve not actually seen previous leaks from Pricebaba but retweet from onleaks does give it some sort of credibility. To add more hype to the square camera bump rumour train, Unbox Therapy got their hands on Google Pixel 4 XL metallic mock-ups with the channel claiming that “Mock-ups like these are used by case manufacturers to design/fabricate cases for upcoming smartphones.”
In the video, they also speculate that there will be two cameras on the back along with a “spectral sensor”, which appeared on the Pixel 3 as well. The spectral sensor makes sure that the phone handles light flicker when, for example, recording LCD screens. They also claim that there will be no notch in the screen, rather a large bezel with five different “imaging units” inside it.
Google has apparently allocated three separate design teams working independently on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL smartphone, with the company then deciding on one design to go into production with. This is to ensure that they don’t end up with anymore design flops like they did with the mixed reaction to their Pixel 3 line up, so bear in mind that the actual Pixel 4 speculated to come out in October might end up looking a lot different to this.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Google Pixel 4.
