Intel is finally taking the leap into the virtual reality space with the unveiling of Project Alloy, during his opening keynote at the 2016 Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich introduced an all-in-one virtual reality solution made from the ground up.

Alloy uses RealSense technologies that have been optimised for VR usages, tether free where the head mounted device computing power is in the gadget and can provide free range of motion with 6 degrees-of-freedom across a large space. It also has collision detection and avoidance sensors, enabling the user to utilise physical movement to explore a virtual space.

The technology allows the device to interact and see elements from the real world, and also be able with the virtual world, merging realities. The headset and is not dependent on setting up any external sensors or cameras around the room.

Intel is collaborating with Microsoft on holograhic functions on Windows-based content, the company will provide open APIs for the ecosystem, allowing developers and partners to create their own branded products from the Alloy design, in 2017.
