Malaysians saw something special at this year’s SUKMA sporting event in Perak. At the opening ceremony, spectators were dazzled by light-up display in the night sky, showing many logos and even the Malaysian flag hundred metres from the ground. The show was powered by Intel, specifically Intel’s drone light show.

The brilliant display consisted of 250 Intel Shooting Star Drones that formed the SUKMA logo, the national and state flags, as well as the Bos Gaurus logo (the logo of Perak’s football club). This is the first time Intel’s drones lit up skies in Malaysia.

The Intel Shooting Star drone is the company’s first drone created specifically for entertainment light shows. It is designed with safety and creativity in mind with a super light-weight structure and virtually limitless colour combinations.

It also feature built-in LED lights that can create over 4 billion colour combinations based on RGBW (red, green, blue and white) LED.  Intel’s proprietary algorithms can automate the animation creation process by an image and quickly calculating the number of drones needed, determining where drones should be placed, and formulate the fastest path to create the image in the sky. Previously, it would take animators much longer to manually determine these calculations.
