Don’t we all love to have some originality in anything? It’s okay to get inspired by something but to have few things in the same manner or ways can be quite not interesting to see. However let’s talk about it first.
Instagram is advancing a new feature which no one asked for to give us a TikTok vibe which is Vertical Instagram Stories. Currently, Instagram stories that we have are browsed through taps for next and horizontal swipes to skip the person’s Stories. The feature itself was already taken from Snapchat before.
Anyway, vertical swiping gives the sensation of being more genuine because that’s how we are adapted to because other social apps are like that too. Hence, changing the Instagram Stories to vertical feed will be something significant.
On the other hand, Instagram will probably prioritise video posts over photos in a “Vertical Stories” feed to better compete with TikTok, just as it is currently tweaking its algorithms and overall design to give priority to Reels.
Alessandro Paluzzi, who posted the discovery on his Twitter account, spotted the ‘Vertical Stories’ feature under development.
According to the source, the feature is currently under prototype and still not out for public use yet. Of course, a prototype can never really make it to a public launch, but its presence says something about what kind of concepts Instagram considers as a way to give TikTok a better challenge.
Instagram’s Reels are now made priorities where it sits in the top position. As you click on the videos, you will be taken to a new user interface where you can swipe it vertically, just like TikTok.
Honestly, Instagram is loaded with too many features on it where users can post pictures and videos in Feed, Stories, IGTV and Reels. Perhaps Instagram should take a slow pace and focusing on what they already provide just now considering they are already a big name in the industry.
After all, it’s a good idea but with other features provided by Instagram, a lot of things should be taken into account. Just hope for the best.
