India may have recently banned 59 Chinese made apps over security concerns and one of those apps may have been TikTok but you know what? It doesn’t matter because they’ve got LitLot, India’s very own answer to TikTok that Indian teens now have no choice but to settle for.
Stupid name aside, LitLot is practically a carbon copy of TikTok. It’s ironic given that China are normally the ones that knock things off but hey two can play at that game I suppose. Of course, the description for LitLot on the app store is almost as good as ripping off TikTok itself, and it goes a little something like this:
“First ever INDIAN APP that lets you create awesome SHORT VIDEOS!
“Ever wanted to create SHORT VIDEOS using an INDIAN APP? then your search ends here.
This app has all the feature to create awesome short videos with beauty, filters and music.”
All that is great and all except the filters and effects leave a lot to be desired, the app itself doesn’t even allow you to create a profile just yet and there’s literally zero content on the app that you can scroll through because you can’t even upload videos unto the app!
Once you download the app, you’ll immediately recognise the TikTok influence, with the layout of the UI being pretty much identical. It’s strange that the developers would release a version of the app without the aforementioned key features but hey, it is what it is.
For now, users are left with a video titled thank you for your support which features a lady explaining how to use the app… and you literally can’t scroll past it because there’s nothing to scroll to. Should you decide to make a video, you have a whopping five effects to choose from and they’re all underwhelming (and thats putting it nicely).
According to the app store, features such as the ability to create a profile, video browsing and video uploading are “coming soon” but even if they address these issues, the dearth of effects available to users certainly leaves a lot to be desired.
Will the TikTok teens of India approve of LitLot? Well in its current form, not a chance in hell. But should the developers add more effects and I don’t know, the ability to create a profile and post videos then there’s actually a good chance it’ll take off.
