Huawei’s New Foldable, Huawei Mate Xs Is Here And It’s Got A Crazy Price Tag

Wait, it costs RM 11,111???

Huawei has released Malaysia’s first 5G foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate Xs. The foldable will be available in physical and virtual stores across the country from 20th March, and will have a staggering price of RM11,111. Yeah, you read that right, RM11,111.  That’s an insanely high price, but I guess you that’s the cost of innovation, right?

The Huawei Mate Xs is equipped with a Falcon Hinge, which apparently makes for a more resilient and flexible device, alongside their Multi-Window technology. It also comes with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, 4,500mAh battery, 8GB RAM, 512GB Storage, and a quad rear camera setup. The cameras include a 40MP wide angle lens, 16MP ultra wide angle lens, 8MP telephoto lens, and a Time-of-Flight (TOF) camera.

But then again, you’re not looking to hear about the cameras on this thing, are you? Let’s talk about that craaaazy RM11,111 price tag for a sec. Just for reference, Samsung’s Galaxy Fold was priced at RM8,888 when it launched, so this much higher price tag is a surprise in the broader scheme of things.

They did mention this when they showed off the device for €2,499. Still, to me this is crazy exorbitant amount for a ‘phone’, which will probably be outdated by the end of this year.

While it is a ‘revolutionary’ new form factor of a foldable, it’s still insane to think that something could cost that much. Foldables aren’t exactly the forefront of smartphones, so you do have to fork out a bit extra. But still, this sh*t cray.

But hey, they released a video with some celebrities reacting to the phone, so check that out? I guess?
