Huawei launched the Watch GT alongside the Mate 20 Series in London. Following previous iterations, this was a highly anticipated release. While previous models had AndroidWear OS, the Watch GT will be utilising LiteOS.
With a battery size of 420mAh, Huawei states that the watch can last up to 30 days, provided you turn all advanced features off, and use it purely as a watch. The advanced features like heart rate monitoring, GPS and notifications are what make the Watch GT the smartwatch it is.
Likely, to walk the fine line between smartwatch and battery life, users would probably have to toggle each feature on and off depending on needs. After all, you likely won’t be using GPS features every hour of the day. Mileage may vary, as sportspeople are heavy users of the heart rate monitoring and hikers would use the GPS feature more often.
With an AMOLED screen measuring 1.39-inches and pushing out 454×454 pixels, the Watch GT has a good face. The panel is also a touch-screen as befitting a smartwatch. You can scroll left, right, up and down to activate the various modes. Swiping left brings up the various exercise modes while scrolling down will bring up other menus.
Equipped with a 5ATM rating, the Watch GT can accompany you swimming. However, its not recommended to go deep diving with the watch (more than 50m) as 5ATM doesn’t cover that far down. Other exercise modes include running, cycling and hiking.
Huawei partnered with Harvard Medical School to bring sleep tracking to the Watch GT. You can view this sleep data analysis in your phone via the app. Not sure how sleep will be like wearing a watch that looks cumbersome.
Huawei will be retailing the watch for RM999 in Malaysia.
