Huawei P8 comes to the South Pacific

‘Wei To’ symbolises company’s shift to being more consumer centric.

Huawei Consumer Business Group recently welcomed its CEO, Richard Yu, to the South Pacific Region for the first time. The visit coincided with CommunicAsia 2015 held in Singapore and the launch of the company’s P8 smartphone.

During the launch of the device, Huawei also introduced its new ‘Wei To’ campaign, a new ideology – so to speak – that aims to show how the company is now focusing on the consumer market.

First debuted in London a few weeks back, Huawei has now brought the P8 to the South Pacific Region, which includes Malaysia, as well as our neighbours Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. The beautiful new device was built based on human-machine design and should be better able to impact a user’s daily lives, be it for work or play. Housed in a sleek aluminium body, this new smartphone comes with interesting features.

New features include taking a screenshot by double tapping the screen with a knuckle, or locating the device via voice should it ever be misplaced. Besides that, the P8’s back camera has an Optical Image Stabiliser to help users capture crisp pictures even in low-light areas, enhanced by the availability of a four colour RGBW (Red, Green, Blue and White) sensor which helps adjust brightness and contrast, as well as reducing the noise levels.

Talking about the company’s shift from B2B to consumer, CEO Richard Yu explained that ‘Wei To’ is a play on the brand name and ‘Wei’ is also a common form of greeting in Asian cultures. “The Southern Pacific is a key part of our strategy to deepen and expand our presence in high growth, high potential markets. We believe in inspiring our consumers to dream big and act bold to achieve great results and continue to make the impossible possible for our consumers into the future. We will be investing more energies and resources into engaging our consumers in this market and be on this journey with them,” he said.

Huawei also showcased other products at its booth in CommunicAsia, such as the massive (yet to be released in South Pacific) P8max phablet, TalkBand B2 and N1 fitness band, as well as the highly anticipated Huawei Watch. The Chinese manufacturer has yet to divulge the availability of these products in Malaysia, but we’re hoping it would be sooner rather than later.
