After the success of its P10 and P10 Plus launch last year, the Chinese powerhouse known as Huawei doubles down with its latest flagship, the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro. Also making its appearance is the more compact version of the two, the Huawei P20 Lite.

A direct successor to the previous P series, all three variants of the P20 will come with a premium metal and glass design, a flagship staple as of late. One of the biggest introductions to feature onto Huawei’s latest smartphones will be an iPhone X-style screen notch alongside a near bezel-less display screen.

The P20 and P20 Pro comes with a fingerprint reader at the front of the smartphone where the home button usually sits while the P20 Lite will have its own reader on the rear. However, it is worth noting that the P20 and P20 Pro will come with facial recognition software for better security and quicker unlocks.  Both devices will feature a similar iPhone X-style notch at the top of its display panel. Nestled within the notch is the new facial recognition software, promising to add better security to the smartphone. The notch is also significantly smaller as compared to the iPhone X.

The Huawei P20 Pro is a beast with a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED FullView display panel, paired with 2,244 x 1,080 pixel resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The Huawei P20 on the other hand, is a 5.8-inch Full HD+ RGBW FullView panel with the same pixel resolution and aspect ratio.

At its core, the Huawei P20 Pro comes with the Kirin 970 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage. It also comes with an IP67 rating, a 4,000mAh battery and will carry Android 8.1 Oreo. The Huawei P20 will feature the same Kirin 970 chipset, but with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage. It also carries a smaller battery at 3,400mAh and will also have Android 8.1 Oreo.

Its interesting to note that both devices do not come with the headphone jack, much like many other flagships these days.

As for the cameras, the Huawei P20 Pro features a revolutionary 40-megapixel RGB sensor, which is part of the phone’s thee camera sensor setup. Aside from that is also a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor alongside an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor, which comes with 5x hybrid zoom. The more affordable Huawei P20 sticks with the conventional 12-megapixel RGB + 20-megapixel monochrome sensor at the back. Both devices will also have a 24-megapixel front-facing camera.

In terms of video, both devices can capture shots at 960 frames per second (fps), but sadly it is only limited to 720p.

According to DxOMark, the Huawei P20 scored an impressive 102, topping even the Samsung Galaxy S9+ (99), Google Pixel 2 (98) and both the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Apple iPhone X (both 97). This is impressive as the Huawei P20 races to the front with three points ahead while the remainder have topped the rest with just a single point.

The Huawei P20 comes in a total of four colours, mainly the new Twilight colourway, which features a chrome blue/purple gradient; a graphite black; a midnight blue; and a pink gold. As far as we know, both devices will be coming to Malaysia very soon, more specifically on 3 April 2018.
