You’ve all seen it yesterday. Huawei has lauched its latest premium smartphone called the Mate S and it’s packing enough to deserve the ‘premium’ nametag attached to it.
Huawei has proudly announced the growth in its revenue by 87% in the first half of this year. The Chinese phone maker took this as a sign that they should be running a marathon, as Peter Tong, President of South Pacific Region, Huawei Consumer Business Group, Huawei Technologies Malaysia said. It is not slowing down and intends to stay for the long term.
The smartphone, Mate S, comes with the Fingerprint Sense 2.0, of which functions are expanded beyond unlocking the device to include picking up important calls, giving tailored control notifications and of course, taking a selfie. This is possible because the touch technology has accurate self-learning feature which recognizes fingerprint forms that can be set for various functions.
The company also increased the fingerprint recognition speed by 100% and it adds more capabilities such as sliding to scoll through pictures, slide up and down to collapse or display the notification bar and more. Users also can switch to hands free mode or turn off the alarm clock with the Fingerprint Sense 2.0.
Another highlight for Huawei’s smartphone technology is the Knuckle Sense, which the company made even better for the Mate S. Transition between applications should be smoother on the Gorilla Glass 4 screen. Users can take various types of screenshots using knuckle movements and open apps by sliding assigned letters on the screen. For instance, “C” can be designated for camera.
Speaking of cameras, Huawei Mate S has a 8MP front camera with a soft front light and a new feature for ‘skin polishing’ so that you can take ‘natural selfies.’ Taking a selfie using the fingerprint sensor at the back of the device should not be too tricky with the big 5.5” screen even for users with small hands.
The ability to take a photo like a professional photographer is one of the telltales of a premium smartphone. Hence, with 13MP rear camera, Huawei equipped the Mate S with manual adjustment of ISO, exposure compensation, exposure time and more, to give the smartpone DSLR capabilities.
The handset is also light at 156g and thin at 7.2mm for a 5.5” device. The previous Huawei P8 only has 5.2” screen. The battery on the new Mate S is also slightly bigger at 2,700mAh. For RM2,698, you can get Huawei Mate S in Prestige Gold colour with 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The massive RAM and internal storage is definitely a welcomed feature for a smartphone entering the premium market.
