With invitation notes sent to journalists depicting an image resembling what seems to look like foldable smartphone, Huawei is probably hinting at the much rumoured release of its first flip phone during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The news was also on Huawei’s official Twitter site, citing an ‘unprecedented revelation’ is about to be presented at the annual mobile technology event where the manufacturer is a regular guest. While the anticipation for a new form factor of smartphones will be a fresh welcome to the overly dated monotonous block candy-bar design, many that ventured out of the design element failed, due to lack of innovative usage for a new shape change. For instance the very promising Edge design by Samsung on the Galaxy series struggled to pick up when consumers found no real reason for the concept, except for aesthetic value (they did look nice) and not intrinsic. Lets no see the modern era flip or foldable as they are known, retreat to the annals of bygone technology just like millions others who lay in this dusty graveyard waiting to be resurrected.

Foldable Tablet 

There are many other manufacturers jumping on similar euphoria, although none have made official reveals, Samsung has hinted of a foldable device by this year, the Korean firm is well known for its Galaxy series and has profound knowledge in displays which are used in notebooks and tablets. One option could be folding the S Tab to resemble a folded smartphone, an easy way out, but the trick is the operating software -Google’s Android- knowing when its a phone and when its a tablet. This experience has to be seamless or users are going to be very disappointed.

Xioami and Motorola are both working on similar concepts with the latter announcing the return of the Moto Razr, regarded as the coolest looking flip phone of the 2000’s.
