At the recently concluded Goolge I/O 2016, CEO Sundar Pitchai talked about virtual reality and how the search company will be developing a new VR device called Daydream. Unlike Google Glass or Cardboard, Daydream will be more immersive and will be competing directly at Facebook owned Oculus.

In order for the device to work, Google will need to work with Android mobile phone partners like Huawei, LG, Asus, Samsung and the likes. First to make an official announcement is Huawei, stating that their phones will be Daydream ready by end of this year. According to the company integrating the latest chipsets from Kirin and Qualcomm, new controllers and handsets are in the midst of being developed.

With Google nothing is at a small scale, with over 80% devices globally running on android, Daydream could be the answer for the smartphone makers who have yet to develop one on their own or find a suitable partner. Google can also support in terms of contents over their app store and search powered products.
