Now with the suspension of the ban by the US President, Donald Trump, Huawei can resume businesses with U.S. tech firms. This includes the likes of Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm and other American companies. What this basically entails is that Huawei’s upcoming devices will probably run Android, and not Hongmeng OS.

However, CEO of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei did an interview with a French magazine, where he said that the company hasn’t pulled the plug on the development of either Ark or Hongmeng OS. He also goes on to say that the operating system that they’re currently building will be 60% faster than Google’s Android OS. He also mentions that Huawei’s OS will also be able to beat MacOS in terms of speed.

Even with the amount improvements they’re integrating into their own OS, Zhengfei isn’t entirely confident that it can take on the two giants, Apple and Android. This of course, pertains to the ecosystem and apps that have been built over time.

“Compared with Apple’s operating system or Android, we still lack a good application ecosystem.” Ren Zhengfei, CEO of Huawei says.

At the end of the day, the ecosystem and apps available on the device and OS is what makes or breaks the entire thing. If they’re able to run things fast, but nothing to run, then the point is basically moot. Hopefully though, Huawei devices end up just continuing to use Android, and save the Hongmeng for another, rainier day.
