The current G20 Summit meeting in Japan has any issues pending discussion, but the highlight of the powerful leaders gathering is undoubtedly between US President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping and the ensuing trade war.
Signals coming from the preliminary meet has been positive, both have agreed to renegotiate on the tariffs with Donald Trump suspending imposition on the remaining $300 billion goods from China. On that point he has also indicated that Huawei can resume buying/selling hardware to American technology company’s. However this comes with a restriction that they must not impose “serious risks to national security”. Overall this will be good news for Huawei, the company has been pushed against the wall and recently reported a potential $30 billion in revenue loses due to the ban.
These are early days, the G20 discussion will now be taken over by the American administration and details will be forthcoming…we hope. Its safe to suggest that common understanding has prevailed, twitter trigger Donald is also known to change his stance on national matters on a whim, so we do suggest Huawei to take things precariously. The company has scaled back production of its smartphone’s and PC’s by more than 30% and will be sometime before production and sales can hit the numbers it enjoyed before the ban.
Things are not very clear still and we can’t decipher the Presidents message at this moment especially if he meant Google and Qualcomm can re-engage with Huawei, a critical part for the company to move forward. There’s no comment from China on this as well. Guess we will just have to wait for Donald’s tweets!
