It’s official, Apple is now the biggest company in the world breaking the US$1 trillion market cap thanks to its well run organisation and cool products. While there were many contenders in the race, it’s Apple that first made the finish line all with the assistant of a very expensive smartphone, the iPhone X. Despite making into a very exclusive club, sales for its flagship was lower than previous the model dropping to no. 3 in worldwide shipment.

Beating Apple in the rankings was Huawei, according to IDC’s report, the company shipped more than 54 million smartphones in Q2, taking 15.8% of the total market share compared to Apple selling 41.3 million the same quarter. Attribution can be given to the increase acceptance of Huawei’s flagships like the P20 series and mid ranger’s like the Nova series.
Huawei however pays tribute to its research and development initiatives, the company puts high emphasis on innovation with the facts it allocates 10% of revenue into this field. “We are a company with high obsession with R&D. We don’t innovate in exotic inventions, but revolve around practical user needs, great emphasis on software and hardware synergy and creating value for consumers said Bill Liu, Country Director of Huawei Malaysia.
Leading the pack is Samsung, shipping over 70 million smartphones which is way ahead of its nearest Android rival but the maker of Galaxy phones suffered negative growth for the same period last year when the Chinese competitor is seeing rapid growth. This will surely be of concern for the bosses at Seoul. Another point worth looking into is the fact that Huawei has yet to get approval to sell its smartphones to operators in the US, regulators have been blocking Chinese mobile phone company’s entering the market until today. Phones are available in retail outlets at the moment but its missing out on the high volume shipment that can be achieved via telco’s.
US is big market Huawei is waiting to unlock, once this happens it will be a matter of time before this company leads the race.
