Earlier this week, Huawei had teased their upcoming Smart TV which admittedly, came with a ‘crazy’ feature: A pop-up camera. Now, Huawei has officially announced their first ever OLED TV, the Vision X65, a 65-inch TV that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and is German TUV Rheinland certified.

Besides it being their first ever TV, the main thing about this new foray for Huawei is the 24MP pop-up camera. It also houses other sensors in the camera array, besides the 24MP ultra-wide. But looks like there’s a good reason for it. When they had previously teased the device, there was mention of being able to control the TV without voice control or a remote, and what it turned out to be, was of course, gesture controls.

I was hoping it was the mind control thing, but hey.

The camera will also support video calls, so you can finally be that guy sitting on his couch on a Skype meeting with the audio blasting while everyone says “Hello, can you hear me?”.

Other features the Vision X65 comes with is fourteen hidden speakers under the 65-inch panel, which they claim can output up to 75W. Honghu 898 and HiSilicon Hi3599C chips keeps the TV powered up, alongisde 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Oh, and they say the panel reaches 1,000 nits peak brightness as well.

Overall, I’d say not a bad first entry into the Smart TV market, eh? The Vision X65 starts shipping in China on April 26, with preorders for CNY24,999 (~RM15,350). Though, no word on whether they’ll be bringing the Vision X65 out of China, so we might have to wait for our pop-up camera equipped smart television set.
