Huawei Is Going To Release A Smart TV With A POP-UP CAMERA; Another Camera To Tape Over

Right after the end of the Huawei P40 series global conference, Richard Yu, Huawei Consumer Business CEO took to Weibo to say: “We still have a big move, I am very confident about this product, April 8 Japan premiere!”

After that, a poster of the Huawei Vision Smart TV X65 leaked, and it showed off some pretty ‘interesting’ features to say the least. This poster indicated that the Smart TV would come with HongMeng OS, OLED screen, 14 speakers with surround sound AND a 24MP AI ultra-wide-angle camera. Yes, you read that right, which the rest of the world is integrating pop-up cams into their smartphones, Huawei’s smacking one right onto a Smart TV.

According to this poster, the Huawei Smart Screen X65 has 24-megapixel pop-up camera and is using an OLED screen to support a new display-colour technology. Richard Yu also mentioned that users will be able to control the new X65 Smart TV without the need for voice or even a remote control. This could possibly mean air gestures, or MAYBE some kind of mind telepathy, but I don’t think Huawei has reached that point just yet.

Most probably though, this could relate to the HongMeng OS ecosystem Huawei’s been talking about for a while now. They’ve integrated this into their Smart TV which would probably allow customers to control the TV, with their smartphone. That’s the way I’m thinking about it, anyway.

The new display colour tech apparently uses multichannel sensors, to adjust the colour and speed of the display screen, adapt the display screen to ambient light, makes images look more natural, and visual perception improvements.

Added to the screen, the Huawei Smart TV X65 has a full-screen sound field with 14 speakers. It will be able to intelligently identify spatial structure. This would mean that the smart screen emits sound ways to detect the room structure and receive feedback to help establish a virtual spatial sound field model and create a sound field by automatically matching the sound effect solution in the spatial scene.

But hey, all this sounds fancy, but I still don’t know what I’d need a pop-up camera on my TV for. Maybe they’re going to implement some sort of AR features? Or maybe just to take a quick photo while you’re.. watching TV? I don’t know, because all I can think about is that camera popping up, and taking pictures of me while I sleep. Is that creepy to think about? Maybe. Probably. Yeah, I’m never getting a TV with a camera.
