The Solid State Drive has become the first choice for gamers, enthusiasts and most laptop users – but there’s still many good reasons to get yourself at least 1 hard drive. Not only are they more suitable for permanent storage (SSDs may not have spinning disks, but will begin to have unusable ‘sections’ over time), but their overall capacities are still a lot higher.

It’s that advantage that hard disk manufacturer Seagate plans to press on, now that all its traditional rivals in the field have begun to diversify their product portfolio. The company already has a 10TB 3.5″ hard drive available in many markets and a 12TB one hitting stores soon. But by 2018, Seagate expects there to be 14TB and 16TB drives available to consumers!

All this is part of Seagate’s plan to provide 20TB drives by the year 2020. We’re sure that’s an achievable target given the additional 2TB the company has been able to add with each new push. In terms of pricing, the current 10TB model sells for about US$540, but expect prices to hover around that region.
