Hackers recently hacked into the IT systems of the Hollywood Presbyterian Memorial Medical Centre.
For more than a week, computer systems at the hospital failed, leaving workers to rely on pencil and paper. According to Engadget, numerous patients have been transported to other local facilities as major electronic equipment were unavailable.
The details of the incident is still quite sketchy amidst investigations from the LAPD and FB, but it is learnt that the culprits are demanding 9,000 bitcoin or around US$3.6 million in exchange for the “key” or antidote to restore the facility’s systems.
President and CEO, Allen Stefanek said: “The attack was random, and the breach shows signs of a ransomware-style bug.
