Gaming is one of the biggest industries in the world right now, considering people just don’t have anything else to do. To attest to that, Steam just recorded the highest number of concurrent users online last week, only to have it broken this week with a 10% increase. That’s pretty crazy. Goes to show, people love gaming, and also shows that people love gaming on their PCs.
You might be getting restless, staying at home, repeating the same routine everyday with no end in sight. If that’s the case, fret not, we’ve got you. Here’s a list of PC games you should get into right now to help quell that anxiousness.
Apex Legends
As far as battle royales go, Apex Legends is one of my favourites. There’s something about the Overwatch-esque mechanic of picking a character with various abilities, and combining that with battle royale tropes and gameplay that makes for a fun experience. It’s also one of the only battle royales I can stand, so maybe I’m a bit biased towards the genre. But Apex Legends has that special formula for me which makes the genre tolerable.
There’s also a bunch of characters, stuff to unlock, and updates coming. So maybe it’s time to check the game out.
Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal is one of the newer games on the list, but it’s got its merits. The game is essentially Doom, on steroids. They’ve added a bunch of new stuff, but still features that high-paced combat from other Doom titles. For single player aficionados, there’s a 15+ hour long campaign, so you’ll get some airtime with this one. They just recently launched their 2V1 multiplayer and battle mode, so there’s that to get into if you’re looking for more competitive gameplay.
The game features and builds upon the gameplay from the previous Doom reboot, and gives you more enemies to kill, bigger arenas, and makes for a more varied game environments and play styles. If you were a fan of the Doom reboot, maybe you should pick this one up. It’s kooky, over the top, gory, and fun, what’s not to like?
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Okay, I’m recommending this one solely because I watched Netflix’s The Witcher, and fell back in love with the ever expansive Witcher franchise. I picked up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the Nintendo Switch, just because I wanted to experience the game on a handheld. But, you can pick it up on PC (if you haven’t already) all the same.
The game follows Geralt of Rivia, Witcher, Monster Slayer, and total Bada**. The story takes you through a bunch, with the main goal of finding Ciri and fighting off the ‘Wild Hunt’, a group of spectres hell bent on looking for Ciri, someone akin to a daughter for Geralt. A lot ensues, and it’s hard to tell you about the game without giving things away. The game is expansive, has loads of monsters to kill, quests to take part in, loot to find. and is a defining game to RPG genre. If you haven’t already, just pick this one up, you won’t regret it.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is the second entry into the Ori franchise, if that’s a thing. The game released earlier this month, on March 11th, and follows Ori’s journey through the forest as he’s followed by this adorable little baby owl. Ori and the Will of the Wisps builds on the original game, Ori and the Blind Forest with more detail, choices, new environments, and a killer new soundtrack. One of the best things about the game is the level of detail in the environments, and the soundtrack that is ever so entrancing you into an emotion the game wants you to feel.
It’s a great Metroidvania style game, with platforming elements and a great story-line. Definitely a pick for something different from the rest of the games I’ve highlighted in the list. But just because the game is cute, doesn’t make it any less so challenging. Prepare for a battle with this one.
