Can you believe Sega is turning 60 this month? 60! 60 years of gaming!
I still can’t believe it. Wow. Do you guys remember your first Sega game? Mine was the Sonic the Hedgehog game. Not sure which one but I definitely remember Sonic the Hedgehog.
So what is Sega doing to celebrate its anniversary/birthday? A virtual party? Nooo… Sega is celebrating by dong something extremely generous on Steam. The publisher is giving away a number of free games, with new ones every day or so until October 18! FREE GAMES!
Honestly, what could be better than free games? (Okay maybe free consoles or money would be great but hey who’s complaining?). First game in the giveaway is Sonic The Hedgehog 2! Yes! Oh my god way to bring us back some memories. I loved this game. Sega is giving away this game from October 9 – 18 so we still got some time to download it folks.
That’s not all, the publisher is also giving away free DLC! Specifically, the Battle for Kawagoe map for Total War: Shogun 2 is now free, as is the Sea 60th Items pack for Two Point Hospital. To make this anniversary even more special, there are few “retro-inspired” minigames made just for the 60th anniversary celebration!
One is called Armor of Heroes, featuring retro-style tank battles with a modern twist, available from October 15 – 19. The other one is Endless Zone, a side-scrolling plane shooter which will be made available between October 16 – 19.
Steam will also add a few Sega-related items to your inventory like the 60th anniversary background. Of course, the celebration includes other games being sold at massive discounts.
You can also pick up a free copy of the 1996 Sega Saturn game Nights Into Dreams by signing up at the Sega anniversary website.
Anniversary content will continue to appear to on the 60th Anniversary website over the next 60 days, including competitions, Let’s Play sessions, interviews with figures from throughout the company’s history, and “content drops” that will begin on October 21 with something from Amplitude Studios.
