Google’s Smart Compose For Docs Now Widely Available; A Smarter Word Editor

Late last year we wrote about Google’s Smart Compose feature making its way into the Google Docs platform. Now, the service is widely available to users and is rolling out as of February 18th. Google’s Smart Compose is an AI predictive text which helps to reduce repetitive writing, spelling errors and other grammatical mistakes. Its AI will try to predict what you’re typing next and will correct you if it detects something wrong with what you’ve written.

You probably have used the feature on Gmail, as it’s been there for a while now. It’s hand, and sometimes crazily accurate and knows exactly what you’re trying to say. This adds a layer of refinement to the free Word alternative, and is an added benefit for sure. I can’t recall how many times I’ve used Google Docs and had a mistake or two because I typed too carelessly.

But keep in mind, the feature isn’t available for users with personal Google accounts. Here’s where Google’s new Smart Compose feature is available:

  • Available to G Suite Basic, G Suite Business, and G Suite Enterprise customers
  • Not available to G Suite for Education, G Suite Enterprise for Education, and G Suite for Nonprofits customers
