Google Rolls Out Incognito Mode on YouTube Android App

Have you ever thought about how useful it would be to have privacy options on your YouTube app? Well, Google is rolling out a new YouTube feature that lets you watch videos privately on your phone. That means you can watch content without Google keeping track, or to keep your viewing habits safe from privy people. Currently, only Android users can enjoy the new mode.

The app won’t store your viewing history. It also bypasses YouTube’s viewer tracking algorithm. This means that if you were to hand your phone to a child, you won’t have to worry about YouTube suddenly recommending content for kids to you. It makes sharing a lot easier.

When you enable the feature for the first time, a prompt will note how, ‘You’ve gone incognito.’ The YouTube app provides various hints to make sure you’re aware of the mode. For example, you can easily tell from the Google’s hat and shades icon in the top right and a ‘You’re incognito’ bar at the bottom.

You’ll find the toggle for Incognito mode on your Account page. It replaces the Sign Out button at the bottom and should be easy to access through tapping the top-right corner in the YouTube app.

When you turn off Incognito or become inactive, the app clears all your activity from that session. You’ll also return to the state prior to turning it on. Take note, however, that your activity might still be visible to your employer, school, or internet service provider.

There are some limitations to using Incognito, though. The Home and Trending feeds are the only parts of the app accessible when it is turned on. Subscriptions, inbox, and library won’t be available in this mode, and you can’t save any videos to your playlists, either.

This feature is widely rolling out now and should be available via the Google Play Store.
