Google Translate was launched 12 years ago and quickly became an integral feature for many who depend on the site in making important translation, be it a book they’re reading or when speaking to someone in a foreign country. Initially translating between English and Arabic only, the site now translates 30 trillion sentences per year across 103 languages.
After more than a decade looking the same, Google has redesigned the site to make it easier to use and adaptable to different devices. The site’s new look is now consistent with other Google products, with updated labeling and typography making more recognisable. For instance, uploading documents is now much more simpler. Overall appearance of the site is also changed, more information is provided when you type in the word you’re searching for, instead of just one meaning there are now synonyms and more similar words shown.
Regular translated words can now be saved and labelled for easy reference and if you speak multiple languages, you can sort and group your translations into a single click. The site can also be responsive to the screen size its being viewed on, adapting to mobile or tablet and showing the features accordingly.
