Hands down Waze is a better navigation app than Google Maps as of now but since both app are owned by Alphabet the parent company, its weird that Maps is becoming more similar to Waze, and with the might of Gmail and user profile, Maps could be the better navigation tool if Google wants to. Its latest update shows this possibility.
The update sees the search giant integrate users profile into Maps, which means your calendar and Gmail will sync with Maps and show your appointments and restaurant reservation when you open the app. Becoming more personal, the app shows three different navigation’s either exploring, driving or transit and the relevant route require to reach each of these destinations.
Adding colour schemes and icons makes identifying places much easier, designated color is given to places of interest for instance food and drinks is an orange dot, shopping is blue and hospitals are in crimson. Now users can find these places without straining to read the fine print on the screen, the colour scheme can also be a way for Google to one day monitise by having brands place advertisements like how Waze has started.
