Ever get a new phone, excited to open it and finally use something actually worth your time, to find out it’s running the older version of Android? Yuck. Totally a turn off right? Well fortunately for you (all of us, really) Google is now cracking down on the practice, because it will no long approve new devices running Android 9 Pie after the 31st of January 2020. Which basically means, new devices submitted to Google after the date, will HAVE to run Android 10.

However, XDA says that Manufacturers could skirt this by submitting new devices for approval before the deadline, and launching them after. But keep in mind, this doesn’t affect devices that aren’t Google certified, such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets, and the like.

But at least we’re seeing Google step up to the plate and moderating what device manufacturers are doing on their platform. This would also make way for easier updates, as well as making the process streamlined. Hopefully we see more devices now, out of the box, on Android 10. At least till Android 11 comes along, anyway.
