According to several news sources, Google themselves will be entering the smartwatch market with 2 new flagships in early 2017. These devices will be the first to use Android Wear 2.0 before the OS rolls out to existing smartwatches like the Moto 360 Gen 2, LG Watch Urbane, Nixon Mission, Asus ZenWatch 2 & 3 and many, many more.
Android Wear 2.0 brings new standalone apps, Android Pay for smartwatches, Google’s voice assistant and a few new updates. The final developer preview of the OS will be released in January.
Oddly enough, it seems Google doesn’t plan to use its ‘Nexus’ or ‘Pixel’ branding for the smartwatch, opting to stick with the brand of whoever’s manufacturing them.
