Gobind Wants TM To Act Quicker On Streamyx Issue

The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) has called on Telekom Malaysia (TM) to explain its high charges for Digital Subscriber Line based broadband service Streamyx and address customers’ dissatisfaction with the service.
Gobind Singh Deo said he had directed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to contact TM and seek clarification over the matter.
“TM should be more concerned. They should provide an explanation regarding the Streamyx issue to their customers. What are the suggestions for resolving this issue? If Streamyx’s copper infra (phone line cables) is not capable of delivering high speed (broadband), please state so and clearly explain what are its next steps (to solve the problem)?” he said in a tweet today.
Knowingly Streamyx’s copper infrastructure connectivity is out-dated compared to connectivity using fibre and wireless technology,  Telekom Malaysia is struggling to convert these users to Unifi. Gobind Deo, on his Twitter feed requested TM to respond to users on their plight of poor internet speeds and act quickly to address this situation. He has told TM not to keep mum on these issues but give users a detailed explanation on what they can expect in the next couple of weeks or months. In response, TM assured the Minister that they have been in contact with the Streamyx customers via email and have been actively encouraging them to port over to Unifi. For those not in a Unifi zone, they can get upgrades up to 8mpbs with wireless broadband LTE 4G solutions.
TM assures that by March 2019 all Streamyx customers will be able to enjoy faster speeds either by moving them over to Unifi or providing wireless option through Unifi Mobile. There are over 340,000 users on the copper line and 50% have been resolved, the other half residing outside fibre network area is the issue that TM will have to find a solution fast.
