The upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima just revealed a ton more details regarding its game mechanics and what players can expect from it.
From the latest issue of the Offical PlayStation Magazine, the game dives into how travelling and ally NPCs will work in the game.
Know your way around, or run in circles

When it comes to travelling, Ghost of Tsushima intends to challenge players on navigating the world without the use of waypoints.
This means that you’ll have to properly identify physical landmarks and have some understanding of the world. The game will not highlight where you need to go next, or where a side quest might be, so you’re going to need to have a good sense of in-game direction.
Other games like Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind or Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Oddysey also implemented a similar mechanic in their games. It was more of a playstyle choice in Odyssey, though.
A friend who can turn into an enemy
The game is also rich with NPCs, some of which can be turned ally. Your actions in certain situations will either boost or decline the bond between you and your ally.
For example, there’s a character named Makoto who’s an expert archer and can become a powerful ally. If she disagrees with how you handled some situations, she might turn her arrows against you instead.

That mechanic goes beyond just allies and can impact other NPCs, too. It’s not limited to just good or bad actions, either. Even your choice of combat may influence NPCs relationship with you.
The game’s protagonist Jin Sakai, who’s also labelled the ‘Ghost’, can use both samurai and ninja skills. So if for example, you find using ninja skills more efficient, Jin’s uncle Shimura won’t approve of them. If you keep relying on ninja skills during combat, you just might get a really pissed-off uncle.
Absolute power

Apart from that is the rich combat. The game offers a wide arsenal of weapons at your disposal, ranging from your signature sword, a grappling hook, sticky bombs and fire arrows.
Jin’s skills will continue to develop as the game progresses. It’s been hinted he’ll be able to completely “devastate” an entire enemy camp at later levels.
The game is still slated for a 26 June 2020 release date, though it just may get a delayed shipment of just its physical copies, much like the Final Fantasy VII remake.
