What the title said – you can set your Android phones to automatically share data connection. Well, for now it’s still limited to Pixel and Nexus devices running Nougat.

In other words, for Malaysians we are stuck with that feature only available on Nexus. For the moment anyway.

The feature was first spotted in late January, and was picked up by a few tech reporters including Endgadget. It allowed users to set devices up with automatic hotspot connections to each other. Today, it’s officially available and made its way into Pixel phone’s FAQ section. However, Google’s list of compatible devices still remain with only Nexus series and their latest built Pixel.

This feature means you no longer have to do the old fashioned and time consuming way of manually tethering to your devices at every instant – making it easier for sharing data on the move. Google warns that tethering takes up a lot of battery, so they suggest for your devices to be plugged in. Although, if there is no activity on your receiving device for 10 minutes, it automatically disconnects.

For the feature to work, your devices must be signed in to the same Google account, then activate it in the settings menu. Your non-host devices will automatically connect to the host device after the initial setup.
