Galaxy S6 Phones Record Poor Sales

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge launch - event photo 2

Sales of Samsung Galaxy S6 has been not encouraging and this is affirmed by the recent decline of the share value of the Korean tech behemoth which wiped off US$10 billion from its stock.

Apparently the Suwon based company had misjudged estimates for the Galaxy phones when the Edge were more in demand compared to the regular version. Production could not release enough models into the market clearly showing the top executives getting the numbers and projection off charts. Samsung’s global market share fell more than 3% in the second quarter amid Apples surging sales of the iPhone 6 models and tough competition from Chinese brands like Xiaomi, OPPO and others.

Galaxy Edge 6 with the curved screens was the better model with its sleek appearance and distinctively sets apart from the rest of the phones in the markets its a lost to not take full advantage of this recognition. The company will be adjusting prices for the S6 Edge and S6 to keep sales going and hopefully regain some of the missed estimates.

Samsung has sold over 89 million handsets with smartphones commanding more than 80% of the total volume, and has said would add middle to low end models like the J1 the A3 and cut spending in the phone divisions. It also has announced the release of the next Note to be much earlier around August 13 ahead of their usual schedule; typically a period when Apple launches its own new releases during the second half as well.

On the bright side the decision to use in house chips instead of Qualcomms Inc. for the flagships saw the division gain in revenue however near view for the division doesn’t look bullish as more chip supply from rivals keep prices competitive and competitor phone brands going for these chip makers.
