The Wiko View2 Plus overall feels very comfortable in hand and surprisingly lightweight. It houses a big capacity 4,000 mAH battery, an upgrade as compared to the View2. Its display is a smidgen smaller than the View2, measuring at 5.93-inch.
Inside, the View2Plus houses 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM. The device runs on Android Oreo 8.1 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and an Adreno 506 GPU.
The View2 Plus comes with an AI-powered 12-megapixels dual rear camera, which uses the Sony IMX486 sensor. It has all the usual modes one expects to fine, along with a few surprises. Both the rear and front camera has a Live blur to highlight your subject at the forefront – a feature that has been gaining popularity.
Doing More with Less
With this particular model, Wiko has brought what consumers would consider more “premium” features into a sub-RM600 smartphone.
The brand introduced new colours to its lineup, which the brand calls “Supernova”. You’ll find this glossy effect popular with more premium smartphones. Wiko believes that “being budget conscious should not necessarily mean compromising on features and looks”. But as with many glossy devices, it is a fingerprint and dust magnet.
However, unlike premium smartphones, the glossy-back of the View2 Plus isn’t entirely smooth. Aside from the bevels of its dual camera and fingerprint scanner, the device has a little indent for what I’m assuming is the speaker.
Notch to My Liking
The View2 Plus is also one of the first Wiko devices to feature the new “T-shape design”, the other being its sibling, the View2 Go. Simply put, this new T-shape is essentially a notch bar at the top of the display.
Personally, I prefer the “circular” notch on its big brother, the View2, as it doesn’t take away much from the actual display. I feel like this new elongated bar, in addition to its thick bezels design, gets in the way of a truly immersive display experience.
If you’re not keen, you can turn the notch off within the setting. Bear in mind that you’ll inadvertently disable the 19:9 ultra-widescreen aspect ratio as well.
Speaking of which, View2 Plus’ 19:9 ultra-widescreen format is quite a surprising choice. Most widescreen videos are either 16:9 or 21:9 – it’ll be interesting to see how much immersion this ratio can provide users.
