Faster Transfers with USB 3.2

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group, the collective that develops the universal port used in almost every popular computer, announces a new incremental update called USB 3.2 that will speed up data transfer up to twice as fast via USB-C ports.

The new standard takes advantage of “multi-lane solutions”, which allows two lanes of 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps data transfer speeds, effectively doubling the speed of existing cables but not existing ports.

This means that older computers with USB-C will require a hardware upgrade (from USB 3.0 to USB 3.2) in order to take advantage of the new transfer speeds. However, the new USB3.2 standard is still not finalised yet and will not be released in new computers until later this year.
