Facebook today officiated the launch of their new expanded office in Malaysia, highlighting their overall commitment to contribute to Malaysia’s digital economy and build an active, engaged local community. Truth be told, the new office, located on the 39th floor of Q Sentral, was a long time coming as Facebook’s first office always looked like more of a temporary thing.
The main highlight of the opening of their new expanded office was Facebook’s Fast Forward Together initiative to support Malaysia’s on-going efforts to progress in its digital focused economic development path. As part of this commitment Facebook Malaysia will be focusing on programs to help Malaysian businesses grow and transform both at home and abroad; enabling improved internet connectivity and supporting community building efforts.
In attendance were Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Amat Berhormat, Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad as well as other key Government leaders; Yang Berhormat Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia and Yang Berusaha Tuan Al-Ishsal Ishak, Chairman of The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

I believe that Facebook Malaysia’s Fast Forward Together initiative will help support Malaysia’s efforts to progress in its digital economic development path,”

Facebook at the event, reaffirmed that it is committed to helping fast forward the country’s digital
transformation through a three pronged effort; with the first by helping Malaysian businesses grow and transform both at home and abroad through digital skills building. Facebook also plans on continuing investments in the latest infrastructure and connectivity technology to unlock growth and opportunities for local businesses and communities as well as supporting community building and empower communities to come together in driving positive social impact through a safe, informed, inclusive and respectful platform.
It’s safe to say that Facebook has some big plans in the pipeline for Malaysia and with a whole family of already burgeoning apps under it’s wing, it’s rather exciting to see the role Facebook plays in a more connected, informed and empowered community in Malaysia.
