
The colourful projection on Sydney’s Opera House during a year end countdown is a splendour to watch, vivid colours and striking images are projected on the roof of the iconic building turning them into a canvas and shown to viewers all over the world on television. These are works of large format projectors with 3D mapping technology.
Technology for projector have improved over the years, with software developers and clever application for the use of these system have increased over time. One such company that continues to dominate the space, is Epson. Recently the company was named the world’s number one projector manufacturer an accolade it has garnered for 15 consecutive years- given by tracking firm Futuresource Consulting.

The results from the findings indicate that Epson has the largest market share for 500-lumen and above at 32.1% for 2015, an increase from 29.4% in 2014. On the home segment the market share stands at 35.1% for 2015.
In Southeast Asia, Epson continues to maintain market leadership, with market share increasing to 28% in 2015, up from 24% in 2014.
Epson projectors caters to various sectors, from enterprise projectors for classroom and small and medium meeting rooms, to interactive projectors for education and enterprise sectors, as well as high brightness projectors for large venue installations, rentals and staging venues.
At the heart of the it all is the 3LCD technology which the company co-created compared to DLP a competing technology delivers, up to 3 times higher colour brightness. In contrast to 3-chip 3LCD projectors, 1-chip DLP projectors use a rotating color wheel that spins at a rapid speed, only displaying colors sequentially, which can result in color break-up or the “rainbow effect”.
