When someone says there are plans to make a flamethrower, go ahead and laugh; when that statement turns out to be about Elon Musk making flamethrowers, prepare to be a believer instead.
The entire idea is so far-fetched, but this coming from the Tesla CEO himself, it is safe to say he isn’t joking. Ironically, he wants people to laugh about it.

Yes, Musk has built a working prototype. Designed, developed, and now on sale at his Boring Company, it looks like something out from a AAA videogame.
Full disclosure: we totally believed it when rumours of ‘Elon Musk making flamethrowers’ have been making its rounds.
What started off as a joke quickly became a proper marketing campaign. Besides having employees joining in, Musk started providing good reasons why anyone should put down US$500 to get a flamethrower.
“[It] works against hordes of the undead or your money back!” he wrote.

Soon after, new sales blurbs from the Boring Company started appearing.
“Fire extinguisher sold separately (for exorbitant amounts of money.),” says one. “Guaranteed to liven up any party!” exclaims another. One other went as far as saying it’s the “World’s safest flamethrower!”
Keep in mind Musk did share early on how this concept “is such terrible idea”. He did this all for amusement sake.
Will it tie into other Tesla efforts and innovations? It’s unlikely but, truly, it’s too early to tell how the Boring Company plans to market this flame-spouting weapon.
