The official gameplay trailer for Fifa 21 has been released so get hyped!!!
It looks pretty good but some players are not happy especially in light of EA Sports’ decision to remove what they consider to be “toxic” behaviour among gamers.
The new Fifa 21 game will do away with two goal celebrations when a player scores a goal during online multiplayer modes – the “shushing” celebration and the Dele Ali’s “A-OK” hand gesture.
Fifa 21’s lead game-play producer, Sam Rivera maintains the decision will only make the game better and more inclusive for all players.
The new Fifa game will be released in October of this year if all goes to plan.
“We were told by the community that there’s toxic behaviours in the game, and we wanted to make sure we removed them,” said Rivera.
The gestures have been notoriously used for unfriendly behaviour, done by crowing over the opposition team and adding misery to their luck factors. Celebrations can be skipped but it takes both players to do so.
The “A-Ok” hand gesture is also similar in resemblance to a white supremacist symbol. The “‘OK” sign was added to the Anti-Defamation League’s list of hate symbols in 2019 due to its “sincere expression of white supremacy”. EA has not specified the reason but many other game developers have done the same recently. “Call of Duty: MW” and “Warzone” have had the gesture removed in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
“So we removed some of the celebrations that people thought were not the best idea to have in the game.”
“The intention there is just to keep you playing instead of doing other things that may not be necessary in the game,” said Rivera.
Fifa 2020 received a lot of criticism after its release last year, with many players displeased with overpowered player abilities, bugs and glitches.
This year, EA Sports which makes the game, maintains that Fifa 21 will reward players for their creativity and control with new features, in the most intelligent Fifa gameplay to date.”
The new game will introduce agile dribbling, positioning personality which is catered to player type, attacking positioning, changes to crossing and off-ball runs.
