The final E3 2018 presentation closed out with a deep-dive into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch. Nintendo did pepper in a few other announcements, but the bulk of the hype was on the all-star brawler. Here’s a roundup of everything that was announced during the live stream.
Daemon X Machina
Mech-based combat is making its way to the Switch. From Armored Core developer Kenichiro Tsukuda, Daemon X Machina allows players to pilot Arsenals, which are fully customizable mechs. Arsenals can be equipped with many weapons, obtained from downed enemy Arsenals. Players can also swap weapons on the fly to their strategic advantage.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 launched on 1st December of year and has since passed a milestone of 1 million sales. As part of its DLC roadmap, Nintendo reveals its promised expansion, called Torna ~ The Golden Country. The DLC focuses on antagonist Jin and his birthplace of Torna, centuries before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 take place.
The expansion is scheduled for a 14th September 2018 release at the price of $29.99.
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee!
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime appears to discuss the Poke Ball Plus accessory that can sync up with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee!. The Poke Ball Plus controller can be used in-game to catch Pokemon, and digitally store them to bring about with you. The announcement also reveals that all Poke Ball Plus owners will get an exclusive Pokemon Mew. The controller itself is pretty pricey and goes for $49.99 on its own.
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! are set to launch on 16th November 2018.
Super Mario Party
Party games have never looked better than they do in Super Mario Party. Nintendo uses just about every feature possible on the Switch to bring about a fun gaming experiences for groups of friends. Players can link Switch screens together to manipulate the shape of levels. There are also tonnes of mini-games to try out, which leverage motion controls as well as traditional gameplay.
Super Mario Party launches on 5th October 2018.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
It won’t be much longer until fans get to enjoy Fire Emblem on the Nintendo Switch. Fire Emblem: Three Houses features the classic top-down grid-based gameplay we know. It’s all in 3D this time, a step up from its recent 3DS predecessors. A new touch to combat is that common soldiers now fight alongside you, though it’s unclear how much of a role they play.
The game aims to launch in Spring 2019, so we should get more info in the coming year.
Small announcements
In other news, you can now download Fortnite from the eShop. If you’re a fan of battle royale games, this free-to-play port might be worth trying out.
Furthermore, a new demo for Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler will be available on the eShop starting 14th June 2018. Players can carry over their progress in the demo once the full game launches on 13th July 2018.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a brand new game for the Switch, making this the 5th entry in the series. What’s neat about this title is that every character who has ever appeared in the series will be in the roster. Yes, even Solid Snake. This brings the roster count up to a whopping and unprecedented 66 characters. Oh, and this includes Ridley, an antagonist from the Metroid series that makes his first debut. Princess Daisy from the Mario series also joins in, sharing the same movesets as Princess Peach.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch on 7th December 2018.
