The new initiative allows Malaysian citizens to conveniently renew their driving licenses online, eliminating the need for physical visits to the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Additionally, the Ministry of Transport, led by Minister Loke Siew Fook, has announced the extension of the driving license renewal period to 10 years, effective May 8, 2023.
Minister Loke emphasised that this extended renewal option is exclusive to Malaysian citizens and comes with a special incentive—a free renewal for the tenth year. This significant development aims to streamline and enhance the license renewal process for the public.
To renew your driving license online, follow these simple steps:
- Visit the website: Go to public.jpj.gov.my (remove the initial “www.” from the link).
- Login with MyJPJ credentials: Use your IC (Identity Card) and the password you registered on the MYJPJ app to log in.
- Navigate to Driving License Renewal: Go to the “Lesen Memandu” section.
- Select License Renewal: Choose the option for “Pembaharuan Lesen Memandu.”
- Choose License Type and Duration: Select “Lesen Memandu Kompeten” and choose the desired renewal duration, ranging from one to ten years.
- Payment Process: The system will display the renewal fee. Proceed with the online payment as usual.
Minister Loke highlighted that while Malaysians can renew their driving licenses for any duration between one to ten years, those opting for the full ten-year renewal will enjoy the special benefit of a free renewal in the tenth year.
This innovative online renewal system marks a significant departure from the previous practice, where licenses could only be renewed annually or for a maximum of five years.
Minister Loke anticipates that this user-friendly approach will ease the renewal process for citizens and contribute to the overall efficiency of the Road Transport Department.
It is important to note that while the renewal process can now be completed online, those seeking to update their license photos will still need to visit a physical JPJ office.
To access the online renewal service, users are required to install the MYJPJ app.
