All that hydroxychloroquine must be messing with his head..
Okay I know we’ve been saying this for the past couple of months or so but Donald Trump is going off the rails. I mean, if it wasn’t evident when he suggested injecting disinfectant to combat the coronavirus, it should be now that he’s said that the US having 1.5 million confirmed coronavirus cases is a “badge of honour”.
Yup, he actually said that.
Let’s try and understand where the US president is coming from here. Because in spite of the fact that it has more cases and deaths than any other country in the world, there’s bound to be some sort of context here.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said “By the way, you know when you say that we lead in cases, that’s because we have more testing than anybody else.
“So when we have a lot of cases, I don’t look at that as a bad thing, I look at that as, in a certain respect, as being a good thing because it means our testing is much better.
“It’s a great tribute to the testing and all of the work that a lot of professionals have done.”
Ok Trump really should fire whoever it is that gives him his talking points here. Saying a death toll of almost 100,000 should be worn as a badge of honour is every level of both stupid and insensitive. It’s not that Trump doesn’t have a point, but the way he makes it is just ridiculous.
He also took the opportunity to defend his use of an unproven Malaria drug to combat the coronavirus after concerns were raised by medical experts across the US that it could spark wide misuse of the unproven treatment.
Trump, in his infinite wisdom, let it be known that he’s been taking hydroxychloroquine, in spite of the fact that if misused, it could prove fatal. It’s still too early to tell if the drug can actually treat the COVID-19 virus but hey, Trump doesn’t seem to care.
My money’s on him endorsing the drug as an official cure to the virus before the year ends because you know, election season. God bless America!
