Digi and Petrosains Pushes Forward in STEM Related Education

SMK Tengku Ampuan Intan representing PI1M Kuala Berang was announced as the grand prize winner of Digi-Petrosains Robotic Programme 2017. They won with their innovation of Coconut Grater robot and walked away with a cash prize of RM1,000 and a trophy.

A joint collaboration between Digi Telecommunications with Petrosains, the Digi-Petrosains Robotic Programme 2017 is a robotic program tailored to provide secondary school students basic designing, coding and proximity sensor training in a robotic development program. Aimed to inspire schoolchildren to develop interest in high-tech digital skills such as robotics, the programme is hosted at eight PI1Ms (1Malaysia Internet Centre) managed by Digi across the country. The eight-month programme has engaged about 144 students from 48 schools located around 48 PI1Ms.

The grande finale – known as the Young PI1M Inventors Challenge, saw the 16 finalist schools presented their ideas and robots that were built based on the theme of “designing a solution to answer a real-world science and technology challenge through programming and building extensions for their robot”.  The second and third place went to SMK Gedangsa representing PI1M Felda Gedangsa with their Robovac robot and SMK Seri Pagi representing PI1M Senawang with the Smart Dustbin robot respectively.
